Parramatta Justice Precinct Update

Work on the Parramatta Justice Precinct on the old Parramatta Hospital site bounded by O’Connell Street, George Street, Marsden Street and the river is making excellent progress with two key stages of the project already completed.

The $25 million facelift of Jeffery House – built in 1937 and a rare example of the International Functionalist style was achieved mid year and now houses the Sydney West Area Health Service. The NSW Children’s Courts is expected to be operational by mid November and work is well underway on the Sydney West Trial Court Complex and the new accommodation for around 1500 Attorney General’s Department staff who will make the move to Parramatta by 2007.

In order to ensure a smooth transition, the Department has dedicated a `Parramatta Room’ within their current building in Phillip Street in the Sydney CBD. The room keeps staff up to date on how construction is progressing, provides opportunities to road test the new workstations, furnishings and technology that will be a feature of their new five star green rated home.

Earlier this year Council was given the opportunity to install a display in the room that provides information for Attorney General’s staff on how Parramatta is becoming the capital of Western Sydney and also showcased what the city has to offer in terms of heritage, dining, shopping and entertainment.
