What artists feature in the Parramatta City Council Collection?
Artists who feature in the Council collection, of which a number are housed at the Parramatta Heritage Centre, include:
Brian Blanchford, a well known painter, who studied at Julian Ashton Art School and under Max Meldrum and Graham Inson.
Edith Draper, primarily a watercolourist, who studied under William Dobell and Douglas Dundas.
Cedric Emmanuel, a prominant printmaker and painter, who studied at Julian Ashton Art School and under Datillo Rubbo. He published over 45 books and is represented in the State Galleries of NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia, as well as the State Library of NSW and the Australian War Memorial.
Danny Eastwood, prominent Aboriginal artist, designer, painter, winner of NAIDOC Aboriginal Artist of the year award.
Colina Grant, painter, designer and book illustrator, who is represented in private and corporate collections and won the Council Art Award eleven times.
Henry A. Hanke, a painter who studied at J.S. Watkins School. He won the Archibald Prize in 1934 and the first Sulman prize in 1936. He is best known for his work as a war artist.
Pro Hart, painter who is best known for his popular depictions of Australian country life and landscape. He is represented in national collections in Australia and overseas and also in significant private collections.
Jean de Courtney Isherwood, painter and printmaker, studied at the National Art School and under Datillo Rubbo. She has won over seventy five prizes and is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW and Regional Art Gallery Collections.
W.F. Longstaff, painter, appointed as an official war artist during the First World War. His best known work is Menin Gate. He is primarily represented in the Australian war memorial Collection.
Jerrold Nathan, a painter, who studied at the Royal Academy in London under J Singer Sargent and William Orphen. He won Royal Academy awards for portraiture.
Tom Thompson, oil painter and muralist, studied at the National Art School where after overseas travel and other appointments he became head Teacher in Art. His extensive exhibition participation includes the Tate Gallery and he is represented in The National Gallery as well as State Gallery collections and overseas public collections.
