Resident Information - Abandoned and Heavy Vehicles

Abandoned vehicles
Abandoned motor vehicles are a constant problem to society. They are left in public places, which presents a visually disturbing presence to the community including obstruction to members of the public in various locations including roadways, pathways and carparks and native reserves. Abandoned vehicles are damaging to the environment and example of this is intentional dumping in waterways.

The 'On the Spot' penalty for abandoning a motor vehicle in a public place is $220. Maximum penalty is $550.

Heavy Vehicles
Certain vehicles are restricted in using particular roads within the Local Government area because of the excess weight they carry. Vehicles carrying excess weight on roads which they are not permitted to use, exacerbate the roads wear and tear, resulting in increased maintenance costs to Council.

Parramatta City Council has regular patrols and road stops on weight limited roads for vehicles breaching this limit.

Vehicles 3 tonne and over are not permitted to stop in a residential area longer than 1 hour.

Penalties
On the spot infringements start at $202 and go as high as $817 for weight limited road breaches.
