Sporting and Recreational OpportunitiesParramatta is proud of its sporting and recreational heritage and the 325 parks and reserves in the Parramatta Local Government area provide for a wide variety of sporting, recreational and bushland experiences within the City. Council's sporting venues provide facilities for a wide variety of Summer and Winter sports attracting many sporting visitors to the City. Sports catered for at venues across the city include Baseball, Soccer, Hockey, Rugby Union, Cricket, Touch, Athletics and Rugby League. Picnic venues such as Campbell Hill Pioneer Reserve, Lake Parramatta Reserve and Boronia Park provide an ideal environment for families and groups to get together for special occasions. The newly established children's playground at Campbell Hill Pioneer Reserve and toddlers bike track at Boronia Park make these park popular destinations for families. Swimming opportunities are available all year round in the outdoor heated pool at Granville Swimming Centre. Parramatta Swimming Centre is opens from late September to March for the summer swimming season. Each Swimming Centre offers a 50 metre pool, learn to swim pools supervised by qualified staff. The cycleway along the Parramatta River foreshore is used regularly by the community and provides a relaxing venue for cycling. Council's newly established skate facility at James Ruse Reserve is a popular venue for local and visiting skaters. |
