History

Parramatta Riverside Theatres was constructed with the assistance of Commonwealth Government funds and opened in 1988 as part of the Bicentennial celebrations by the Prime Minister, the Hon R J L Hawke. Parramatta City Council assumed ownership of the Theatres and responsibility for their on-going operation.

The Theatres' future lies within Parramatta and Western Sydney. It engages with local and regional communities, providing support and opportunities for emerging performers and creative artists (both amateur and professional) from the diverse cultural mix represented in Western Sydney.

As well, the theatre presents the best of the performing arts from Australia and overseas.
